Join us for talks and special presentations on Growing Chocolate! & Trade and Economy of Chocolate with a focus on Fairly Traded food and highlights on the Farmers.On Saturday and Sunday we will feature several special presentations on Growing Chocolate and the industry and trade that brings chocolate all the way here for us to eat. These talks will also focus on Trade of Chocolate and highlight the farmers that make it happen. Join us at our special Chocolate Trade Education Center located at 10,000 Villages in the NW Pearl. 11:00 a.m. How Chocolate Grows: special presentation on Chocolate Trees and Cocoa Farming Join several educators for tastes of Fair Trade Chocolate and a brief lesson on How Chocolate Grows. Did you know that it grows on trees? And the Cacao Pod (also our festival Logo!) must have the seeds removed and fermented before they become Chocolate Beans!? Come and learn chocolate growing facts and impress your friends the next time dessert comes to the table! 12:00 p.m. Guilt Free Chocolate: Challenges and Solutions in Chocolate Trade and Farming. A special segment presented by Students for Fair Trade and Divine Chocolate. Learn about chocolate companies thath work directly with farmers and taste their great chocolate while listening to stories and insights about Fair Trade. What is Fair Trade and what are the ways to ensure farmers are taken care of for all the work they do in the fields? 2:00 p.m. Stories from the field: Chocolate Farming around the world, special presentation. We bring together the present and past with stories from the field of chocolate farming, the people who grow our food, and insights from organizations that work with farmers in cocoa producing countries around the world. Join us with special guest presenters from Sustainable Harvest International and Divine Chocolate as we share Stories from the fields in chocolate lands. Our trade center will feature speakers from Students for Fair Trade and presentations from Sustainable Harvest International, Oregon Tilth Organic Certfiers, Divine Chocolate, and more to be announced.
